a cup 

bearing the emblem 

of joy

overflowing 

with war

the crunching sounds 

of knowledge 

beneath the conqueror’s boot

sip quietly on the vessel of blood

knowing simply 

that there is nothing else 

to drink

a libation of fire…

or thirst
