All Around

All Around” – music by Trent Boswell

Lyrics

I can’t find it I don’t see it
Though I’ve looked nowhere over
I was certain I’d have found it
By now

Thought I had it once
In my hand like a clover
But it flew away
Somehow

I’ve rubbed out my eyes
Squinting through the dark
But my eyes are too full
Of dreams

Want nothing so much
Thoughts of self not a spark
And I still do not know
What it means

Collecting each one
Not mine in a moment
All tomorrow’s
Forgotten yesterday

Yourself saw you with them
You know of the torment
A sideways hello
Didn’t say

Slippery little thing
So many to climb
Fall so fast and without
A sound

Never had your gift
Of yours all this time
Wrapped tight and spilling
On the ground

All time gone by
Flirting with the dawn
Seeking for a higher
High score

Those things which remain
To this day are long gone
These things are all things
No more

Don’t know why I bother
I bother not to know
It’s never too much
Not to say

A slight tinge of joy
In each thing to show
Everything never came
This way

The secret only shared
Never told never kept
All the smiles that cannot
Be got

Always not moving
Ever happy it wept
In the open it hides
Where it’s not

Close the window my friend
Despite how it looks
It is going to be
A fine day

For it has the good sense
In verbose old books
All words refraining
To say

A slight tiny sting
Four missing leaves of clover
Ending all applause
Curtain bow

Can’t find it don’t see it
Having looked all over
Was certain I’d have lost it
By now

untitled

a pinch of madness
the insane notions of a poet, sorcerer,
a singer of peculiar songs,
the rhythmic, vain ideations of one
who conjured strange creatures
from the cauldron of creation

over and beyond this threshold,
you partake of the leisures of sound and sultry syllable
lessons and lectures and laughters
and the lesions of wounded minds,
weary with the weight of life
and giddy with the youthful joys of the coil-sprung death instrument
called cosmos and its temporal, jittery stasis

tune in to the mad frequency of the hatter's harp
feel the feathery quill between your fingers,
scratching the soft illusions of underworld cathedrals
onto the digital parchment of binary scrolls
and into the thousand, orb-like eyes of the argus

place your hand into a nebulous, darkened grab bag
of glasslike candies and venomous serpents

here, you will know not the quilted comforts of certainty
but only the gambler's thrill, that of wanton abandon
mercurial mirth whispered in your ear

tip me for a tune and I will write you a rhyme
receive the song by bartering for the verse with a dime
the witch ways abound in this universe of sound

words walk here... like men...
men who speak lessons,
instructions in the summoning of demons,
demons who cut doorways in the daylight,
doors through which only angels may pass,
these angels enter into the earth and make oddly-perfumed flowers,
flowers that bloom children under the cold rocks of winter,
children who spend their time slaughtering gods for sport,
beautiful, terrible gods that bleed dying stars,
stars that used their last, tortured breaths…
to spit the dust and the light

that is you

little devils

(for Jess)

clandestine sprites may try to intervene
and pixies seek to get in between
but I still would find some way, some mean
to get back to see her face gleam, somehow

I might be troubled by a nebulous moon
who would have me, to some other, cast my rune
but although I barely know her, I swoon
when the scent of her, like a tune, rises up to me

if all things were equal, I doubt that I'd care
but all things are not equal and so I will share
my time with her, whether here... or there
and it matters not where or when, so long as it's now

a black magician may throw cursed stones in my path
to steer me away, as result of his wrath
and try to keep me from her, but I would just laugh
and giggle a bit as I knock and she asks who it might be

as I said it's all conjecture, what I know of her
and the universe itself might be against us, as it were
but I, never having been one whom reason would stir,
to learn all about her is to be my new vow

and so to the pixies and to the moon, I say fie!
I kick the black magician and spit in his eye
and the universe, so far as I care, can lay down and die

so long as she makes some time on her calendar free
